    Question

This is my second time making a film and my first time usung super 8! Any suggestions for film type or filter. I would like to get a muted or bleached look if you will. I guess another way to put it is, I want it in color but not to colorfull. (if that makes any sence)

Well, for colour you only have a couple choices.....Kodachrome 40, Ektachrome 120, and several negative films available from www.super8sound.com ....

The films from super8sound are supposed to be very good, high quality films. I think the prices they offer include processing and maybe transfer too. I don't think they can print to positive that's why they transfer...not sure though.

I've heard nothing good about the Ektachrome stock..........I would go with the standard Kodachrome 40 available at lots of stores that sell normal film as well as from Kodak directly. As far as muting the colours......are you editing on film or computer????

If film then I would use the negative stock available from super8sound and have it developed with bleach bypass process. You would have to ask super8sound if they offer this but I'm sure they would. That is an excellent look and I'm sure you would be very happy with it. You can get different looks depending on at which stage they do the bleach bypass. It's a pretty common look.....3 kings, seven, last night all used this process.

If you are using a computer it's as simple as lowering the saturation level.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do and how it turns out.

    Happy shooting.
    Tash.
